MIXED

is a photo project by Asian-ish @ Yale

MIXED was born from an earlier iteration of the same idea, a photography portfolio by the same name, produced by Yale students Molly Ono and Mariko Rooks. The project won a 2018 Tsai City Arts & Media Innovation Award and "showcase[d] the visual diversity of the mixed population on campus."

Ono & Rooks' work was revitalized seven years later by Andrea Rix and Kaya Dierks, who wanted to expand and revitalize the original photo project. From this impulse came MIXED: A Photo Project of Mixed Asian Faces at Yale, which includes over seventy portraits of mixed Asian faces and a new permanent digital archive.

The project was produced in collaboration with Asian-ish, an affinity group for Yale students of mixed Asian backgrounds. We are an Affiliate Organization of the Asian American Cultural Center with about one hundred and fifty active members.
